Note: I Certify the following article as U/A
Why do we get to read so many rape stories on media these days? Is it
because the incidents has increased or is it because the media is highlighting
it more? Rape is not a new thing in the whole world. Wherever there are women
and wherever there are men, there exists a chance for the same. Even in the
most civilized societies, we hear such things. Then it’s not surprising that
India being the second most populous country and ‘not so great’ human
development index has to face such crimes every often.
However, of late, though, due to the phenomenon called “rape politics” (a nasty
way of trying to disrupt the whole
democracy because of one or two rape incident), I think, women of India (both
rural and urban) have developed courage to express their problems openly. Women
today at least have the guts to go ahead and lodge a complaint in police when
they face any problem (this again is “misused” by some women. let’s not talk
about that here!)
Today, we are living in a cyber world where you can start a “Cause” for
protection of women and get “votes” for “signing petition” to the Govt. But we
don’t know what will happen to our own “lady friend” if she goes out alone at
night! In many of the recent sex crimes, the victims were girl child of even
3-10 yrs of age and the culprits were boys of 17-19yrs. This is a point to
ponder.
I wrote the following angry post in my FB profile when the delhi rape
incident took place.
“ ..Can any technology stop pornography and free sex videos through
internet? That's one reason I think behind the increasing Violence in the name
of sex. Females are portrayed as sex machines- who can be brutally penetrated
thru any part of their body and their cries are considered as "yes".
Imagine a 12 yr boy who grows up watching this- he thinks -women enjoy this
violence. No parental control is able to stop this free availability of porn on the internet. and Imagine , an uneducated rogue watching the same in his mobile even when travelling in public transport. Man is obviously a social "animal" and sometimes even becomes a "beast" who cannot control his urges. Adding to this, if he is also an alcoholic ..then the rest of the story I needn't say at all!
Wish the world could go back to 20 yrs- when
these were not available. I was so fortunate that , even as a teenage girl, i
could go out alone- except for a few "groping" incidents, I never had
any serious misbehavior from men..and even in some bus incidents..I have
retaliated for their misbehavior that they will remember it for their lifetime...
But, now, even as a 30 yr old mother of two kids, i am afraid to travel out alone.
Some women in the media are talking of death sentence, castration
and other painful punishments to rapists. Some gentlemen has retorted ,saying
that Men cannot be castrated or given medicines for losing interest in sex AND that
men are always powerful. According to them, women are powerless creatures who
should be used as a toy for the whims and fancies ... May I gently suggest ,
such Gentlemen , that Violence in the name of sex is a mental sickness and
needs treatment.
Yes, this is the right time to enforce strict
law against these criminals.
CAN THE MEN EVER STOP FIRST LOOKING AT THE BREAST
OF A WOMAN? For the first time .. I wish I was not a Woman!
CAN THE INDIAN LAWMAKERS BRING A STRONGER PUNISHMENT? For the first time- I wish ..I was an NRI..!
CAN THE SOCIETY STOP WAITING FOR AN INCIDENT TO WAKE UP? - For the first time- I wish I was not even BORN !
:-(
A Sad and Angry Woman Citizen of this era..... "
I think the above article still holds good, though some of my friends commented
that “watching sex videos cannot make a
person a rapist” and “if the person has some self control ,such incidents wont
occur” and so on. But I think, I will stick to my opinion in this matter for one important reason - 20 yrs back we didn't have sex videos and alcohol freely available in all sections of the society.
STOP Pornography , BAN alcohol and SAVE women
