Pistah Suma Kira Life!!

Sometimes in life we may end up like the above statement – meaningless but interesting – Beware!!

Photography by Rahul VR

I have been meeting and getting to know different kinds of people.

Some lead a very flamboyant life and lifestyle, doing a lot of interesting things. They have so many interesting people around them, possess all the luxurious things , seems to be always happy and smiling. They have stories to share everyday about their success and failures. Fame and money comes automatically to them, proving that money and fame are interconnected and to a great extent leads to one another!

Then, there is this second category of people who do not have all these luxury and end up doing “uninteresting things” in life! I read somewhere about a person who makes 5000 food packets daily and distributes in the Govt hospitals, where there are patients from very poor families. He does this daily without interruption managing with whatever funds that’s available. Of course, his days are filled with seeing people crying, worried, suffering from pain and sorrow. But still, I think his life is NOT “Pistah suma kira so mari juma kiraya”. Yes, he leads a meaningful life – considering that he gives back life’s meanings to many, in his own possible way.

Then there are many middle class and upper middle class office goers, who lead a very interesting life and claim to be leading a meaningful life also.  Again, amongst them, there are some unfortunate employees working in government departments –especially in those where direct citizen services are given. They may be  leading a life which, according to me (and them),  may be uninteresting on a day to day basis but meaningful in the long run. I am reminded of one such government official belonging to the Social welfare department, whom I was fortunate to interact with some years ago. She was a strong and bold woman who fought for the rights of the inmates of a welfare shelter home, where she was the superintendant. She was not like any other employee who, when faced with a situation of crisis, could easily move away to a safer zone of activity. Instead, she did all she can to protect her inmates who were mentally ill and was asked to move out of the shelter home as it was planned to shut down. Thus, a legal battle, which she initiated, gave back the inmates a safe place to live. Sometimes people do things beyond what they are paid for! Can we say, that’s when their lives become meaningful?

Let me narrate one more story and wind up. The hero of this story- A 72 year old man who works as the caretaker of dogs and other pet animals in a resort. In a casual talk with me one day, he narrated his own life story in a simple way. He got his Govt job at a very early age and joined the sales tax department as a peon, thirty five years ago. In his first week he was offered bribes by several people to get their things done. He accepted and could even make twice the money than his salary. But then he realized that this was not the place he should be (he was a Christian and believed that Jesus will not accept this). He gave his request for transfer to another department. His colleagues stopped him from doing that. They tried to convince him –saying that “you have three daughters, don’t u want to marry them off? , don’t you want to build your house?” . But this man was adamant and he got his transfer done to the Homoeo department as a peon and then later got promoted as a drug dispenser. He served  in remote villages and helped and prayed for poor people who felt happy and satisfied with his caring services. He told me, “I retired after thirty years of service and yes, I built my small house, married off my daughters and educated my children. Above all I am happy that I don’t have any guilty feeling. I am sure that I will have a peaceful death unlike my ex- colleagues from the excise department who died spitting blood. Today, even when I am cleaning the poop of dogs, I feel satisfied that my hands are clean!”.

Now, is that what we can call , “A meaningful life”  and NOT  “ A Pistah suma kira Life” ?

Revelations Season 1

A Collection of my thoughts and ideas , which was shared in Facebook

Actually, I don't know whether I am a feminist. But today I had a chat with one of my friend, who says that getting the branding of a feminist is bad. He asks me , "Dont u think it will affect ur reputation? won't u lose out by being on one side?"

When I am talking abt my rights, my feelings or my thoughts openly or have strong opinions - does it mean that I am a feminist?
( If that is feminism, then, Yes, I am feminist , otherwise I wish I am called a "humanist")

Secondly, Is it bad to be a feminist?
(I don't know whether the concept of feminism is bad, But its the so-called "feminist" who made it bad I guess! and I dont wish to be branded as a feminist in that sense.. Again I want to be a "humanist" only..) :-)

Agree with the great management gurus that managing people is the toughest of all management.

Behavioural problems of a person in workplace can create serious impact on another. No man can overcome the impact of an emotional attack easily.

Time will heal every wound, but emotional wounds are the most difficult to heal..

"A person can grow only to the extent he is willing to learn from others...The more you learn, the more you grow..."

How to learn?- Ask questions
How to ask questions? - study the matter .
How to study? - Take initiative
How to take initiative? - Have a positive attitude
How to have a positive attitude? - Be with positive people and environment
How to be with positive people? - .....................

That's what I call as "Destiny"
Sometimes you have to be Destined to be at the right places

But, yes ,saying that , I also cannot deny the fact that WE CAN CHANGE OUR DESTINY..if we have A strong will..

Moral of the story: BE POSITIVE...and KEEP LEARNING!

Who is a better employee? - Is it a person who keeps quite when the boss talks or A person who gives his/her opinion when the boss talks ?

A real boss will say -Its the second one..!

Who is a better boss? - Is it a person who keeps talking to the employee about his/her idea or a person who keeps quite till the employee comes up with his/her idea and only then give opinion?

A real employee will say - Its the second one..!

Moral of the story : Freedom of Expression is an important quality in any organisation- without crossing limits.

All that glitters is not Gold
And ,all that is black is not Coal

Only time will tell us whether it was gold or coal, which is in our hand!

But one thing - We should be ready to accept whatever it be..otherwise, We become the real loser.

I think, I will soon develop a training module on "Facebook Etiquettes" . Considering the future, there is a huge potential. Y?

Coz, people doesn't know how to behave in FB and with their own friends!!

For,Eg: Some of my friends keep TAGGING me in their photos - even when I have no connection with that picture!!

And some keep chatting as a comment to a particular photo ..and guess what - everyone gets to know what are the different nick names or even the latest bad words!

Whenever you see a really bold woman - a woman who is ready to take up any challenges and ready to fight for her job or her rights, there can be only one of the following reasons.

1. She has good support from her family !
2. She has good number of problems to solve at her family!

In the case of 90% of women (in any part of the world for that matter), the reason would be second!

Folks, please bear in mind that whenever you say some comment about a woman at your workplace ,think twice. She may keep smiling and bear all, even when she has cried the whole night!

N.B: Today I met two women - one from a middle class family and another who is struggling to give her kids food three times a day. I found a sparkle of boldness in both their eyes -which were swollen out of crying!

Being a celebrity is very difficult.. You need excellent memory , excellent people relations, exceptional talent to attract people, maintaining the aura , keeping up the dignity and charm !! and above all, you need excellent emotional quotient and keep smiling despite of your bad mood!

The more I see and interact with celebrities like Sri.Mohanlal, I understand the pain of being a celebrity!

Funny but interesting truth about FB posts and why we need FB

1.You get more likes when you post photoes which are beautiful or horrible. (for eg: photoes of yourself with celebrities or photoes of yourself in some beautiful locations or photoes of yourself in a stupid situation/place etc)

2. You get lesser likes when you say some serious stuff or some important matter.

3. You get very very little likes , when you try to endorse a brand or a page (coz u will be branded as "trying to sell something")

Well, I always wonder what exact purpose does FB solve in our life? And there is only one answer , which I can find out :

-- Now I have not one but nearly 500 friends in my list who may extend me help when I need. and the BEST part - I can contact all of them at one click!! What more do you want in life?

Thankyou Facebook!

I am proud to say that I am an SMS ian - Who did not study in AC class rooms, did not wear a suit and tie, paid just 3500Rs as fees, took part in all sorts of competitions, enjoyed the shades of trees and the hot teas , got to listen to unaccented ,but intellectual lectures and got the mentorship of some of the best management faculties in the whole world.

Thankyou SMS ,CUSAT and as my dear faculty Bhasi sir has commented below, if the media does the rating the quality of the classroom and not by the quality of the passouts, then, as a proud Alumni, we may have to retaliate the negative publicity. Hence, spreading the message to everyone - SMS CUSAT is STILL THE WORLD'S BEST AND LOWEST COST MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE and PRODUCES SOME OF THE WORLD'S BEST BRAINS !

We cant be happy until we do what we like to do!!

Happiness , I think is the major differentiation between a job and a passion.

If your passion becomes your job, life is a heaven!! What a world it could be if only everyone had that option!
